Eating spoon carving template

A classic eating spoon for soup, cereal and yoghurt. The bowl is an elongated egg shape that's widest towards the tip, so it slides easily into your mouth, and a gentle crank with a slight S-curve in the handle brings it up to meet you.

Carving tips

This is the spoon most carvers make first and then keep making. It's long enough to hold comfortably but small enough to carve from a short branch. Try it in birch, cherry or maple, and thin the bowl walls towards the rim so it feels light in the hand.

Cut out the top view and trace it on the blank with the grain running along the spoon, as the grain arrow shows. Saw the outline, then draw the side view on the side of the blank for the depth and crank, and carve away everything outside the lines. Read more in How it works.

About spoon-template.com

Hi! I'm a software developer, and wood carving and woodworking have been my hobby for many years. spoon-template.com is where those two come together: a little tool to design a spoon and print a full-size template to carve from. It's completely free: no account, no ads, no paywall.

Just a hobby project

I build this in my spare time, so please use it as such. It comes without guarantees: double-check the printed measurements before you start cutting, and keep your fingers away from the sharp end.

If the tool helped you make a spoon and you'd like to say thanks, you can buy me a coffee. It helps keep the site free.

Found a bug, have an idea, or just want to show off your spoon? Send me a message, I'd love to hear from you.

Still in beta

Things will change. Features may be added, reworked or removed, and designs saved in your browser might not always carry over to a new version. Use Save design to keep the ones you care about as an .svg file.

Privacy

Your designs stay in your own browser; nothing is uploaded. A share link carries the design inside the link itself, so it isn't stored anywhere either. Like any web address, it's seen by the sites you post it on and by this site's web host when opened; it's left out of the analytics. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics collects usage statistics (pages visited, device type, rough location) so I can see how the tool is used and what to improve. You can change your choice any time with the Cookies button at the bottom of the page.

When you open the 3D preview, the page loads the three.js library from jsDelivr. A saved .svg file loads its heading font from Google Fonts when you open it in another program.

Messages sent with the contact form (your name, e-mail and comment) are delivered to me by e-mail through Web3Forms. Nothing is sent until you press Send.

Say hello

Carved a spoon? Found a bug? Got an idea that's sharper than my knife? Say hello, leave some feedback or send me another message. I read everything, usually with sawdust in my coffee.
